Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
By myself
What materials will you need for your project?
A micro bit chip thing, a computer and an idea
What is your plan to create in this project?
A Flower
What unique qualities will your project have?
It may sprout or have a face
I went on to the Micro Bit app and learned a little bit about it and how to add my name on the screen, I also started to make rock, paper, scissors.
I got my micro bit and hooked it to my computer and then made a rock, paper, scissors and started just making random items like faces and a house and I started a calculator.
My friend and I found out how to send messages to each other.
I made a beating heart and thought about a project to do next.
I did a bouncing ball and started a Tetris but it wasn't that identical to the real Tetris.
I finished my Tetris and it still isn't identical but it's close, the part that isn't identical is I forgot to make it so that when you get the 5-in-a-row, the blocks fall.
Using a micro bit, I created a couple different things consisting of my name, a rock paper scissors that can be play with another person if they also have rock, paper, scissors. I also sent messages to my friend from across the room and I made a beating heart, I made a bouncing ball but with limited space it didn't bounce/go that far, I also did a Tetris but its not identical to the real one. I did this because they seemed like cool, fun ideas.
During this process, I learned that it is not as easy to program a micro bit as I thought and that there are many steps to programing A.I. I also learned it is not as easy as some may think to work and program it and there are many challenges along the way and you may have limited space to work like with the Micro Bit, you have small screen to work with.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Empowered learner and knowledge Constructor because I set a goal to make a flower but then when the Micro Bit project was over, I reflected back on the goal and I didn't end up completing it. It also ties to Knowledge Constructor because I had to use some tutorial and such to learn how to make a couple different projects and to learn about a Micro Bit.
A challenge I overcame on this project was the fact that I was tight on space and didn't have much room to work along with just coming up with project ideas. I was able to do it by making smaller images and when doing the design, just trying to change a couple of things including size. I also just ended up scrolling through the project ideas provided by the Micro Bit app and I also asked for any ideas from my friends or I just would do random designs until it reminded me of something for an idea.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the whole design of Tetris and probably put a little more effort into some of my other designs and really have tried and found different ways to make my goal. The reason why I would change it is because the designs I did were very simple and didn't take too long, the longest project was the Tetris, but I could've come up with other projects that would've taken longer than a day or 10-20 minutes.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Computer Programing CTE program at Hastings High School. Our Micro Bit Project connects to Computer Programming at the High School because we had used our computer to program micro bits to whatever we chose to create. We had downloaded our creations from our computer to our micro bit and had used codes to program stuff on our computer.
My project connects to careers in Web Developer because They design and create websites and they're responsible for how the site looks and functions, they make sure that they test and make any changes to the website and make sure it's up to the required standards before they release it. Once sites get published, web developers, monitor the site's performance and fix any problems that may occur and ensure that the website makes the current security standards. They meet with client to discuss what they may want in a website and the web developers write a code for the site and work with a team of other creators to produce content for the website.
