Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
By myself
What materials will you need for your project?
The Cospaces app, my computer and a head set
What is your plan to create in this project?
A farm with animals and a pond
What unique qualities will your project have?
The animals will be caged in a fence not just roaming around, there will be a field with crops, the farm, will be realistic and there will be a maze.
I answered my planning questions and came up with a list of ten ideas.
I added the barn with some hay and animals, I worked on the field and started a pen for another animal and figured out how to code animals to walk.
I made the pig pen and started coding a couple of pigs, I also was looking to change the color of the rooster at the top of the barn to look like a statue.
I added a fence around the field and added a maze.
I coded some cows to run in front of the camera and changed the color of the maze then decided I didn't like it so I deleted it. I also added cows and a chicken pen.
Here my video of my VR world
Using the Cospaces app, I created a farm with a corn maze because I grew up on a farm as a child and I think I would be able to make it a bit more realistic and they had some farm animals and other things I'd be able to use to create a farm. I also had the idea to create things like a field and incorporate animals in different places.
During this process, I learned there are many different parts to creating things such as a game. I like to think of the VR world as a game considering it was made to be semi interactive and you were able to code objects to move them do certain things and if you weren't paying attention and thinking about what parts to the code you needed, you could mess it up and have a problem occur.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to digital citizen because a digital citizen means you are able to responsibly choose what to and what to not share on the internet which includes not copying righting images and other things that someone else originally used. For my project I had a farm idea like many other people, but the way I created it wasn't like other peoples. I did look at others portfolio to get some ideas about what to create which is where I got the idea to do a farm but I didn't directly use there items in the same way that they did.
A challenge I overcame on this project was timing and coding things like animals to do certain things I was able to do it by limiting the items I used and how much detail I chose to put into it. I started my project a little later than I wanted to so I only had about 5 days to complete it while others may have had a bit longer and I had also struggled to find certain materials for the farm like a certain style of fence or animal, (I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have any corn stalks). I had trouble coding when it came to making an animal turn or do some form of trick. I was able to easily code an animal to walk and such but it took me a couple tries ot figure out how many degrees clockwise to turn an animal, (when coding an animal or thing to turn, you have to pick a turning degree). Since I wanted my animal to turn right, I just turned my degree to 90.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the way I chose to place the animals and the location of the animal pens along with the shape of the barn. The reason why I would change it is because some of the animal pens are so close together and I was thinking that in real life, some animals may fight and not get along and I wanted to make sure that even in a game animals shouldn't be that close together so I would separate the pens. I would also expand the barn to put more items in it and to probably put the chickens in the barn.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Digital Multimedia CTE program at Hastings High School. My project ties to digital multimedia because a digital multi media person mostly does working and programming on a computer, This is similar to VR world that I created because the VR world was completely on computers/online and to make certain animals move, you needed to/program them.
My project connects to careers in video editor because a video editor edits has videos that tell a story and they have to make edits to them to make people actually watch them or recognize whatever the video is trying to say. It's similar to my VR world because I programmed and made edits/created the world and I also had to take a video of it and then import it to iMovies to take out sound and edit a couple other things.
