Reflection
Using an embroidery machine, an iPad, thread, fabric, and a PC, I decided to create a shirt with a flower design. This idea came to me as my first thought for the project, and I felt it would be both fun and creative. The combination of modern technology and traditional techniques made the process exciting and unique.
During this process, I learned how to use an embroidery machine, which was a new skill for me. At first, it seemed complicated, but with practice, I started to get the hang of it. Understanding how the machine worked was key to making the design come out just right.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project connects to the Innovative Designer standard because I created the design for my project myself. By coming up with the idea and turning it into something real, I was able to use my creativity and problem-solving skills to make it work.
A challenge I overcame during this project was having to rethread the embroidery machine many times. It was frustrating at first, but I didn’t give up. I was able to figure it out by watching tutorial videos and asking Kylie for help.
Given the chance to do this project again, I would change my decision to embroider the design on a shirt. The reason I would make this change is because it took too much time and made the process harder. Choosing a simpler fabric might have made the project go more smoothly.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers many courses like Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. This is because I used design skills and technology to create my embroidery project, which fits well with what is taught in Engineering Design.
My project connects to careers as an embroidery designer because it involves creating original designs that are then digitalized for embroidery. This process is important in the industry because it turns ideas into patterns that machines can use. By working on my project, I got to experience what embroidery designers do when they bring their designs to life.
