Reflection
Using Paper, pencil, glue, black sharpie, and scissors, I created a cute little panda bookmark because I wanted a new bookmark because my other one was a plain design and boring. First, using a ruler, I cut the paper into a small square. Then, I folded it into a bookmark. After that, I cut out the accessories like ears, eyes, hands, etc. Next, I colored the accessories black. Lastly, I glued the accessories on the bookmark, and it turned out to look like a panda bookmark.
During this process, I learned how to make a bookmark that looks like a panda. I accomplished this problem by looking it up on Youtube. After I entered my search, I scrolled through some videos until I seen an outcome that I liked. Once I found one I liked, I clicked on the video and began watching the video. I paused the video every now and then while following the tutorial.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Empowered learner because because I set a goal to make a bookmark and finish it. I used technology to help make my bookmark by watching tutorials and being determined to do it correct. I tracked my progress and took pictures along the way while at the same time understanding how I did each step. I made sure to make each on of my designs carefully so my bookmark turned out great and exactly how I like it.
A challenge I overcame on this project was trying to get a perfect square cut out. I wasn't able to achieve this at first because I was using a rectangular sheet of paper to start out my project. For the bookmark I wanted to make, I would need a square paper. I was able to do it by grabbing a ruler and measuring each side precisely. I then cut each side to make a square. I messed up multiple times, with some squares being too small and some too big. Eventually I got the perfect size and then continued the rest of my bookmark making journey.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change making sure each accessory for my bookmark is measured and cut well. The reason why I would change it is because, while I was cutting out my accessories, I realized I was cutting them all too small. This lead me to having to keep re-drawing each accessory and coloring them all over again. With having to do all of this, it made me lose some of my limited time that I had, causing me to finish my project late.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Digital Multimedia CTE program at Hastings High School. I watched tutorials online that showed how to make a paper bookmark, then followed the steps to create one by hand. Even though it was a physical project, I used digital tools to learn the process. It helped me see how digital resources can guide creative, hands-on work.
My project connects to careers in design and crafting because I followed a step-by-step process to create something by hand. Watching tutorials and using digital tools helped me understand how instructions and creativity come together. This is similar to what designers, artists, or even product developers do in their jobs. It also showed me the importance of paying attention to detail and being patient with the process.
