REFLECTION
Using a Circuit Playground iPad, and a computer, we created numerous amounts of codes and projects. One of the project where a siren. With the siren we added red and blue light that switch back and forward with a siren audio. Then we moved on to a light show which had multiple colors and patterns. Next, we created a clap light, where the Circuit Playground would detect sound through its microphone and turn on or off the bright light when we clapped. This project allowed us to explore sensors and how to program the board to react to external stimuli. After than we then moved on to creating a magic wand, where we used motion sensors to make change the pattern.
During this process, we learned how to program loops and variables by learning how to make things loop . For example like in the siren or light show, we made lights flash and patterns repeat, we also learned how to work with sensors like the microphone on the circuit by clapping and that signals the circuit to flash lights, and with the magic wand, we shook the circuit and that changed the pattern. We for also problem solved along the way helping us learn how to fix bugs and/or see what we did wrong.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Knowledge Constructor because followed some tutorials to help me find what I needed to to and how to make things. For example, for the magic wand I used a tutorial to learn a step by step on how to make a magic want.
A challenge I overcame on this project was getting the sensors (like the microphone and motion sensor) to respond accurately to the inputs, especially when trying to make the clap light or magic wand work. Sometimes the sensor didn't register a clap or motion change properly, which caused delays or errors in the light patterns. I was able to do it by re-writing the code, adjusting the sensitivity of the sensors, and making sure the loops and conditions were set correctly. I also tested the system multiple times and tweaked the timing to make sure the responses were accurate and consistent.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change coding the volume on some projects because they were very quite to the point I would not be able to hear them and I would also change the brightness on most of the because some where not bright enough and some where to bright. The reason why I would change it is because I would want to have a successful finished project and to have more fun playing with them because I couldn't really do that when some things just weren't right. But other than that the project was really fun and a great learning process.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Digital Multimedia CTE program at Hastings High School because it allowed me to engage with multiple tools in the digital world, specifically by creating and testing my own coding projects. Through this experience, I was able to level up my skills in coding by using a circuit playground, which helped me understand how to program with physical components. This hands-on approach allowed me to see the real-world applications of coding and how it can be used to control and create interactive designs. Additionally, I used an iPad to capture images of my creations, which helped me document and showcase my progress.
My project connects to careers in the field/industry like people who make neon signs because it provides valuable insights into the specific skills, knowledge, or technologies that are essential for success in that field. By exploring key aspects of the project, individuals can gain a deeper understanding of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies. This knowledge equips them to navigate the field more effectively, develop relevant expertise, and identify the core competencies needed to excel. Ultimately, the project serves as a guide for those aspiring to pursue fulfilling and successful career opportunities by fostering a clearer understanding of what it takes to thrive in the industry.
