Reflection
Using my Mac, computer, and Cricut machine, I created a design with a cross. I was inspired to turn this digital cross into a printed paper to try and heat press it onto a shirt if I had time. If it turns out I don't have time, I will heat press it on my next project. After designing the text and adjusting the layout on my computer, I cut the design using the Cricut. This project was not only a creative outlet but also a meaningful way to share a message of faith and peace through fashion.
During this process, I learned how to use a Cricut machine for the first time. At first, I was a bit unsure about how it worked, but as I followed each step on MrRenner.com, I followed the videos on how to log into Cricut then I started creating my design. Then I began to understand the different functions and features of the machine. I learned how to choose the right materials, adjust the settings, and properly weed out the excess vinyl. It was exciting to see my design come to life. Using the Cricut gave me an example for how creative this tool can be.
My project ties to Innovative Designer because I used technology to create a custom design. I used the Cricut machine and Design Space to bring my idea to life. I made creative choices with the layout, font, and sizing. I also solved problems along the way, like adjusting cut settings, preparing the material, and having struggles with the Cricut machine.
A challenge I overcame on this project was having trouble with the Cricut machine not connecting to my Mac. At first, I wasn’t sure why the devices wouldn’t sync properly. After some troubleshooting, I realized that my Mac needed a software update. Once I updated it, the connection worked smoothly, and I was able to continue with my project without any more issues.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the way I started my design. I began with one idea but ended up switching to a different design because I liked it more. The reason why I would change it is because switching designs in the middle made things harder. If I had chosen the second design from the beginning, everything would have gone more smoothly, and the process would have been less stressful.
My project connects to the Digital Multimedia CTE program at Hastings High School. I used a Cricut machine to cut and print a design through the Cricut app. This involved using digital tools to create a custom design. It relates to Digital Multimedia because I combined technology and creativity to complete my project.
My project connects to careers in graphic design and digital production because I used technology to create a custom design. I used the Cricut machine along with the Cricut app to cut and print my design. This process required me to think what my design could be, edit my design by creating it, and using the same tools these jobs use. These are skills used in real world careers that involve creativity and working with design technology.
