iPad Options
Which route should you take?
Which route should you take?
When preparing for your child to enter the schools' 1:1 iPad programme, there are 3 routes which you can take, although we highly recommend Option 1.
Option 1:
Following the parent information event, you can put in an order for a new iPad via SPVi. There are 3 iPad models to pick from; for further information regarding recommended models, click here and for the order form, click here. We recommend this option, even if your child already has an iPad, since the new device will become the student's tool for learning rather than being viewed as a leisure/communication device. Should you choose this recommended option, there is a timeline to follow which can be found here. On the day of collection, you will be invited to visit the SPVi Service Centre which will be set up on site. At the service centre, staff will be on hand to help you set up the Apple ID safely (via Family Sharing) and choose options for the 'Downtime' settings (parental controls).
Option 2:
Parents to purchase a new iPad independently, either online or in store. If you choose to do this via the online Apple store, there are options for paying by interest-free monthly payments. Please note, you do need to have a Thai credit card if you choose to purchase via an installment plan. If you choose Option 2, please bring the iPad into school on the designated day for your child's form room and then we can add it to the MDM system and advise on setting up the Apple ID and Downtime settings (as explained in Option 1).
Option 3:
Re-use an existing iPad. This is our least recommended option although we do understand that some families will need to opt for this due to financial or other constraints. The reason why we are hesitant about this option are outlined below:
The device will need to be restored to factory settings and the iCloud removed before it can be added to the MDM system. Please see the this video (also embedded below) for information about restoring the iPad.
You will then need hand in the iPad to ICT Services on the date specified for your child's form room. See this page for dates and times.
Next, you will need to set up the Apple ID for the iPad. We advise using the Family sharing method. Staff at the SPVi service centre can help you to do this as well setting up parental controls and Downtime settings. Please See the timeline of events for when the SPVi Service Centre will be available for your child's class. If you cannot attend this SPVi centre, there is information on this page explaining how to set up the Apple ID independently.
After this, you can re-add any personal apps your child uses and use the Downtime settings to block access during the school day.
