The foundations for computational thinking are laid in the Reception phase. Puzzles, construction toys, early robots and coding apps all play their part in helping our youngest children think logically and creatively, learn by trial and error and experiment with cause and effect. In this year group, students are introduced to simple apps and robots which develop early digital literacy and coding skills. Screen time is still very much limited at this stage and is used strategically, within the provision, often under the direction of Mrs Jones, our head of Digital Technologies. Formal Computing lessons begin with Mrs Jones in Term 3, when the students spend time in Pre-Prep, learning to use the equipment and rules and routines of the technology lab.
