ACADEMIC RECOGNITION

The Honor Roll and Principal’s List are awarded to those students who achieve a certain level of academic excellence. In grades 1st through 12th, the awards are based upon grades in all core subjects and do not include non-core subjects or electivest. The Honor Roll award will be given to those students who have all “A’s” and “B’s” for the semester. The Principal’s List will honor those students who have all “A’s” for the semester. PROGRESS REPORTS/REPORT CARDS

Hampden DuBose Academy has transitioned to semesters, which means report cards will be available at the end of every nine weeks of school in Alma. However, weekly grade report notifications are provided to parents as a courtesy. Parents can always log into our SIS or our LMS to see the student’s grades. Progress reports are made available to parents weekly and these reports will be tools to identify the student’s strengths and/or weaknesses and indicate a path for improvement. A semester average is calculated as the average of two quarters for grades K-8 and Quarter 1 (40%), Quarter 2 (40%) and Final Exam (20%) for high school (if a final exam is not issued by the teacher then each quarter will be weighted 50%).

ACADEMIC PROBATION

ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL

All elementary and middle school students are required to maintain an average grade of “C” (70%) or higher in all classes. If a student falls below the “C” at the end of 9 weeks they may be placed on academic warning. If the student falls below a “C” in two consecutive quarters the student may be placed on academic probation. If after the third quarter, the student falls below a “C”, the student may be administratively withdrawn from school.

In a class, a course of action is determined by the teacher, administration and parent(s) for the student to get the necessary help for the student grade to improve. If a student finishes the year with a grade lower than a “C” in any core class, the school’s appointed administrative team will assess the student’s academic situation and make a determination on whether or not to retain the student in their current grade.

HIGH SCHOOL

All high school students are required to maintain a grade of “C” (70%) or higher in all classes. If a student falls below a “C” in any class, the student’s progress will be assessed by the teacher or administration. The student may be placed on academic probation, and/or assigned to receive tutoring, and/or any other arrangement deemed necessary to assist students in improving their grades. If it’s determined the student is to be placed on academic probation, the student’s progress will be reviewed periodically to assess if the student is improving. If the student remains on academic probation the student may be involuntarily withdrawn from the school by the Administration.

WORK STUDY

A student in the work study program is required to maintain a grade of “C” (70%) or higher in all classes. If a student falls below the “C” required to work, he/she is placed into the study hall. If the student’s grades continue to fall below the “C” then the student may be placed on probation and suspension of up to two week period from work. During this time, the student is not allowed to work and he/she is to complete necessary work to improve grades or attend tutoring sessions for help in the necessary academic areas. After the probation period, the student will have their grades reviewed to determine whether or not he/she may return to work or sit out another probation period of up to two weeks.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES OR ATHLETICS

A student participating in extracurricular activities or athletics is required to maintain a grade of “C” (70%) or higher in all classes. If a student falls below the “C” grade then the student may be asked to enter the study hall. If the grades persist below the “C” level then the student may be put on a probationary period and may not be allowed to participate until the probationary period is completed.
