Chrome browser extensions are small software programs that customise the Chrome browsing experience. They enable you to tailor Chrome's functionality and behaviour to your individual needs or preferences.
The Council automatically deploys some Chrome extensions for you, such as the Google Meet grid view, but you can choose to install other extensions yourself. The Council monitors extensions that people have installed and if any are concerning from a data security perspective then they will be blocked.
To view and install Chrome extensions visit the Chrome Web Store.
A second, separate market of apps is available from Google's G Suite Marketplace which you will find under the nine-dot drop-down menu at the top right corner of your Gmail page. There are a number of apps already installed including Gmail, Calendar and Drive, but you can also add other apps to the G Suite environment, such as Trello and Sketchboard.
To view and install G suite apps visit the G Suite Marketplace.
If you are unsure about the usage policy of a certain program and need someone to assess its suitability to handle work data, then please raise a call with ICT and a member of the Information Security team will come back to you with an assessment outcome.
