The pool Chromebook service (aka 'Grab n Go')

  • Most of us require access to a portable device to work away from the desk but don't necessarily need to have one assigned individually to us as it would spend a lot of time not being used
  • Chrome devices are great for sharing - log onto any device with your own profile to access your apps and your information
  • Pool Chromebooks have software called 'Grab n Go' which allow us to easily track who has borrowed a device, why they are borrowing it and for how long - and the system will then send email reminders to make sure it's returned
  • In larger offices where there are large pools of 'Grab n Go' Chromebooks we will provide cabinets to store and charge the devices . Charged devices should hold up to 10 hours of battery life but a small number of spare chargers will be provided to teams for when people are needing to use the device for longer than this
  • When using a device please use the Grab n Go app to register your use and flag that you are returning it when you have finished
  • When you borrow a device please return it as soon as you have finished using it. The devices are typically intended for short-term use so we’d rarely expect someone to have a device for more than 2 working days. The devices have a maximum loan period of 7 days.
  • Primarily use the devices from the pool assigned to your team (see here for details of pools assigned to each team along with cabinet locations where relevant)
  • Return the device to the location that you took it from, plug it in if there is a charging rack and mark it as being returned using the ‘Grab n Go’ application
  • If there is an issue with a device please mark it as being damaged using the ‘Grab n Go’ application
  • Remember that it is really easy to use your own personal computer when working at home. To access G Suite you just need to go to www.google.com and sign in. To access myoffice (VDI) see the guidance here.
