Metis Bead Art
Metis Bead Art
Last week we were able to join Mr. Maltais, Mr. Swampy and Alexis Lizotte, a Métis bead artist, who taught us about the importance of beading and art in Métis culture. The students were then given the task of creating a digital beaded flower. They turned out great!
Santa Letters
This week we reviewed the five components of a friendly letter - heading, greeting, body, closing and signature. The students were then assigned the task of writing a letter to Santa. We have mailed the letters to the North Pole and the students are eagerly awaiting Santa's reply.
If you are interested in reading your child's Santa letter, please let me know and I can email an image of the letter they typed up. These letters are also in "Classroom" if your child knows how to access that from home.
Statistics Project
In Math, we just finished working through our Statistics unit. The students learned how to formulate statistical questions and collect data. They also worked on how to represent data using pictographs, bar graphs and dot plots. For this project, the students were asked to create their own statistical question and gather the data by surveying their classmates. Then they created three kinds of graphs to represent the data they collected.
Procedural Writing
For this assignment, students practiced procedural writing by creating a step-by-step guide on how to make hot chocolate. They brainstormed the ingredients and instructions required,, ensuring their writing includes clear and logical steps. To enhance the flow of their writing, students were asked to use transitional words such as first, next, then, and finally. Once the initial draft is complete, students edited their work, focusing on punctuation, capitalization, and clarity. After finalizing their recipe, the students cut out their completed work into the shape of hot chocolate mugs and decorated a creative title page.
At the end of the week, they celebrated their writing project with a hot chocolate buffet!
Skating
The students participated in a week of skating over at the Dale Fisher Arena. They had a great time and improved so much over the week. Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who joined us at the arena this week. We appreciated all of the help both on and off the ice!
