Welcome to Miss Bailer
Welcome to Miss Bailer
I would like to welcome Miss Bailer to our Grade 4 classroom! She is a preservice teacher from the University of Alberta and will be with us for 5 weeks. We are all very excited to have her join our class!
Animal Hide Art
Some First Nations communities have left petroglyphs or pictographs on rocks and cliffs to tell a story or journey or their lives. Petroglyphs are simple symbols etched on rocks and pictographs are painted. Tanned animal hides were also used for art. Using brown craft paper, the students created the look of aged animal hides by tearing the edges and crumpling the paper multiple times. The students then sketched simple Indigenous symbols and chose three colours for painting. The final step was to outline the symbols and design a simple border.
We Thinkers
Mrs. Angela with MHCB has been joining our class each week. In this program, students are learning to follow a group plan, which involves working together and staying focused on shared goals. They were also introduced to flexible and stuck thinking. Flexible thinking involves being open to changing your mind or plan when things don’t go as expected, while stuck thinking happens when you fixate on one idea or approach, even if it’s no longer working.
