How much sleep you need changes as you age. Although the amount of sleep you get each day is essential, besides the time you sleep there is much more related to sleep that decides whether you are having a good sleep or not. Signs of a poor sleep habit shows symptoms like, feeling sleepy even after taking a long nap, not being comfortable while sleeping, and experiencing signs of sleep disorders (such as snoring or gasping for air).
Lack of sleep is strongly linked to weight gain. People with short sleep duration usually weigh more than those who get enough sleep. In fact, short sleep duration is one of the strongest risk factors contributing to obesity. respectively The effect sleep has on weight increase is believed to be contributed by a lot of factors, including hormones and will to exercise. If you’re trying to weigh lighter, getting quality sleep is really important.
Mental health problems, such as depression, are heavily linked to poor sleep habits and even some sort of sleeping disorders. It’s been estimated that 90% of people with depression complain about sleep quality. Poor sleep is even associated with an increased risk of death by suicide. Those with sleeping disorders like insomnia or obstructive sleep apnea also report significantly higher rates of depression than those without.
What Should We Do If we Can't Sleep?
1.Try not using your bed for any other activity than sleeping.
2.Fix a time to sleep or wake up.
3.Avoid taking naps.
4.Avoid eating close to the bedtime.
5.Don't sleep anywhere else than your bed.
So, more sleep must be better right? Not so fast, say some researchers. More evidence is showing that spending an excessive amount of time in bed is also linked with health hazards. In some ways, oversleeping itself appears to directly influence certain risk factors, and in other cases, it may be a symptom of other medical conditions.
