Mental Wellness is the state of your mind when it is well maintained and is functioning in a positive way, flourishing your physical and social wellbeing. It gives you a chance to feel, think and act properly. It will help you to handle situations, make proper decisions, choose easily from the alternatives and relate to others. It includes psychological and emotional wellness. Connecting with people, sharing your thoughts, being positive, being active and learning new things help you become mentally fit. Staying isolated, feeling ill, being negative will act as a devil who will annihilate your mind and can cause mental illness.
Good mental health plus wellness influence every area of our presence:
When you go to bed after a long, tiring day, your body may be stressed out, however, if your mind isn't then your chances to sleep peacefully raises. That is because good mental well-being also influences visualization.
A healthy mind always helps in solving the difficulties faced by us in our lives.
It enhances self-confidence and boosts happy chemicals which helps boost the overall mood.
It helps shore up the brain in facing cognitive decline and supports the brain to prevent degeneration.
People think only about personal development, focusing just on the physical aspect. However, there is no doubt that physical and mental health are indirectly linked, and that the state and quality of both have a greatly influence on our quality of life. Mental health has a massive impact on our lives, affecting your thinking,behaviour decisions making, relationships, as well as stress. The once with a good mental health also minimize the risk of developing risk factors that can cause conditions - such as hypertension, diabetes or heart disease.There are changes you can safely make in your day to day life to boost your mental health and reduce your stress,anxiety and depression. Research shows these are some of the effective lifestyle changes that can be implemented to improve mental health they are:
What we eat affects how we feel. The diet we have can affect our concentration, memory, alertness and mood. This is because different foods contain different and various nutrients that affect hormones of our bodies.
Exercise has many advantages for those with mental health issues. Even regular low impact physical activity such as walking, can reduce the occurrence of depression. It has also been known to improve physical and mental health.
Lack of adequate sleep can reduce the symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression. Commit yourself to a regular and constant sleeping routine by taking care of going to sleep on time and waking up at consistent times, avoiding eating a heavy diet before sleep, and exercising
Spending time with family and friends can make you feel happier and energetic. Isolation can make you feel sad and can affect your mental state. Expanding your circle of friends and socializing will help you to connect with people improving your mental health.
Find something you enjoy doing and that challenges you. Outdoor activities will help you socialize and see the outside world. Learning a new skill help you feel more proud and accomplished like any art,dance,writing or anything you like and you feel amazes and heals you.
Every once in awhile, other than your support system it is important to separate yourself from the world to give yourself some me-time to reflect, think and plan for your future, which can help in self awareness and self affection. Appreciate yourself, nature and the world around, and think of how far you have come and what goals you want to achieve.
Children are one of the most inestimable gems on the globe still some might be scarified spiritually, that is 1 out of 3 may be aching from psychic wellness issues. MENTAL HEALTH: OUR PRIORITY REPORT
Mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Keeping these thoughts in our mind, Webinars on Mental health and Wellness were conducted by our school on Google Meet.
Plan of action followed during that program is given below:
1. Introduction of Mental Health
2. Why it is important?
3. Concept of self-prioritization
4. Talk about your mental health and practice mental health well-being exercises.
5. Following activities were conducted after the explanation: Benefits of each activity was discussed.
· Activating positive memories using nostalgic tunes. (positive thinking)
· Compliment yourself (Feeling good for yourself)
· Recall the names of parents of actors/actresses (fun activity)
· Mosaic of emotions: Paint or write your emotions: it’s okay to be angry, it’s okay to cry and take out space for yourself.
(self-exploration of emotions)
· Sing a song on the word given (presence of mind)
· Guess the name of the serial clip shown. (fun activity)
· Mention the name of your peaceful sitting area (self-love)
· Enjoy your teatime. (importance of self-time)
6. Some other activities which we can practice at home.
· Try out something new every day.
· Take care of your body: exercise, eat well, sleep and meditate.
· Expect less.
· Break away from the habit of telling others I am fine when you might not be.
· Stress is not ‘built-in’ to events, it lies in how we perceive that event. Change your perceptions: modify the way you take the events.
· Change your internal language. Instead of ‘I have to….’, say, ‘I choose to….’
· Support yourself the way you would a loved one.
All the participants understood the importance of mental health well being and why we should focus upon our mental health. They all enjoyed the activities conducted by Mrs Ta the special educator which acted as a wonderful start of their day.
