SLUG-2025

Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG)-2025 ended up with unforgettable memories to the undergraduates of Sri Lankan university system which was worked off at the Rajarata University premises, Mihintale from 05th to 21st September 2025. This prestigious event, commonly known as,” SLUG”, holds once in three years and this is the 15th episode of the event. University of Peradeniya undergraduates shown splendid performance at this premier triennial event and became 06th position in the overall category. Also they were able to clinch three (03) championships, 04 runner-up positions, and 03 second runner-up positions.

Swimming

Swimming women’s team were victorious at the SLUG swimming Championship having 8 gold medals, 02 silver medals, and Ms. Nimasha Dissanayake of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Sciences created two new SLUG records. She made records for 50m Breaststroke & 100m Breaststroke with the timing of 38.12 seconds & 01;25.72 minutes respectively.

University of Peradeniya men’s swimming team obtained 02 gold medals, & 01 silver medal.

Carom

University of Peradeniya carom mens’ team grabbed the champions trophy. Peradeniya team performedexceptionally by defeatingGampaha Wickramarachchi Indigenous medicine (3:0),University of Jaffna (3:1), University of Colombo (3:2), and at the finals University of Moratuwa team (3:0).

 Hockey

Men’s hockey team thrilled after a spectacular win over University of Moratuwa at the semi- finals at the SLUG hockey Championship held from 16th to 20th September, 2025 at the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, Mihintale. There was a heavy battle for the champion’s trophy for the finals against University of Colombo, however the both Universities fought hard and at the end of the regular time, ended up with one all. At the penalty strokes University of Peradeniya lost to 5:4.

University of Peradeniya Clinches SLUG Women’s Chess Championship for the third consecutive Year

 The University of Peradeniya Women’s Chess team emerged victories at the Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG) 2025 securing the championship title for the third consecutive year a remarkable achievement that underscores their dominance in University level Chess in the country.

The tournament held over six intense rounds brought together the finest Chess talent from universities across Sri Lanka.  Peradeniya showcased consistency, strategy, and resilience throughout the event.
