IP (Internet Protocol) based video distribution systems are specifically designed to distribute videos, presentations, websites, etc. across data networks for viewing in classrooms and/or TVs in common areas. IP typically refers to systems that operate and function over data networks, such as local networks in your building or the Internet.
The complexity, cost, and functionality of these systems will vary depending on the need and desired outcome so there are literally unlimited options and configurations available. However, we have attempted to outline the basic systems below to give you a brief understanding of the most frequently used systems.
A simple digital signage system may consist of a single TV/monitor located in a common area that could be used to display a PowerPoint presentation that loops throughout the day, car dismissal information, or show a video or recording. This system will mirror the display from the computer.
An advanced digital signage system is a more complex and full-featured system that may consist of two or more TVs/monitors along with specialized hardware located throughout the building. This system can be used to display the same media as the simple digital signage system, as well as incorporating powerful digital signage software for creating professional layouts and displays.
A digital IP-based broadcast studio uses cameras, encoders, video switching gear, and various other components to deliver live video feeds via the school data network to computers, Promethean boards, or TVs equipped with digital signage hardware. These systems are typically used to produce morning news shows, broadcast school events/speakers, or deliver pre-recorded videos.
Satellite/cable TV distribution is the display of live television broadcasts from a cable or satellite provider to computers, Promethean boards, and televisions via the school’s data network
