To introduce our unit on emergencies, we started right in our own classroom by learning the difference between a tattle and something important that needs to be shared with a trusted adult.
We read "A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue" and practiced sorting examples of what is a tattle and what isn’t.
Each student read and signed our Tattle Pledge, even the teachers and peer tutors signed too! All of our pledges are hanging in the classroom as a reminder to be kind, thoughtful, and respectful with our words.
Of course, we know there are times when something is on your mind and you just have to tell someone, so we created a Tattle Box. A place where students can “feed” a friendly monster their tattles instead of interrupting or getting upset. And to make it extra fun, every kid made their own tattle monster to feed whenever they need it.
Check out our Tattle Box station! Students can write to the tattle monsters during class change and breaks throughout the day. The station is stocked with special forms and pencils. Once the student fills out their form they fold it up and put it in the box to "feed" the monsters.
