GPHS is in a pickle finding a new softball head coach. Head coach Jerrud Hook stepped down this fall after serving two years as the GPHS varsity head coach. His first season at GP was the 2021-2022 season, which ended in a 10-18 record, allowing GPHS to make it to the first round of playoffs. A very successful season two for Hook ended with a record of 18-11 and GPHS made it to the second round of playoffs, losing to number one-ranked Sheldon, 10-0.
GPHS athletic director Clay Rounsaville has a big job to fill. With there being no coach, girls are beginning to wonder who will fill the role Jerrud Hook left. There are a good number of applicants waiting to get an interview for the job, so the question is: who will Rounsaville pick to fill that job? After such a successful season last year, will the new coaching staff and new team be able to fulfill the role that is waiting for them on the field?
Rounsaville and Duane Pardue are looking for the perfect candidate to take over the program. The head coach and two assistant coaches are paid positions at GPHS. According to the GPHS website, the head coach position makes roughly around $7,290 on the season, which is equivalent to $24.75 an hour. Old assistant coach Toye Johnson stated that there were about eight coaches who have applied for the job. The eight applicants think they have what it takes to take over the Lady Caver softball program.
Unfortunately, as the softball program is wondering who will come in as the new head coach, so is baseball. Zach Morgan has stepped down from the head coach baseball position after three years of coaching the Cavemen. The baseball positions are also paid the same amount as the softball positions. With two head coach positions needing to be filled, Mr. Rounsaville has a hard job in finding perfect candidates for these positions.
