In this article, Tessa suggests ways to occupy yourself during summertime.
Summertime is the time of the year to indulge in various lively pursuits to get one’s spirits lifted. Without the burden of school’s chains and shackles, summertime is the time to have fun and not feel stressed. According to Phineas and Ferb, “There’s a hundred and four days of summer vacation,” but that is simply not true. At Grants Pass High School, there are less than 90 days, and the only completely school-free month is July, so we must make the most out of the small break we have been given.
A timeless spring and summer activity, picnics are known for their versatility and effortless enjoyment. One simply needs to own a blanket and nothing else. You can throw a blanket down in your own backyard (or front yard), toss some snacks down, and then eat. If you want to get fancy with it, then you can have a red, plaid blanket, a basket, and make your own food. From jelly sandwiches to the most extravagant salads, picnics are an easy way to spend time with friends and family.
Camping is a fun way to spend nights during summer. One can stuff a suitcase with the necessities required to participate in a jolly good time, such as camping. According to The Everygirl, “Even if camping doesn't seem like your thing, the summer is the best time to give it a go.” There are a multitude of activities to participate in whilst engaging in the camping experience: s’mores, telling scary stories, sleeping in an uncomfortable tent and wishing you were at home, and getting eaten by mosquitoes. However, if you have access to a high-quality air mattress and exceptional bug spray, camping can be a somewhat enjoyable experience. If you have an aversion to spending time with insects, spiders, and dirt, then you can camp in your backyard. Set up a tent, throw out some fairy lights, roast some marshmallows, and then go back inside and have the privilege of sleeping in the comfort of your own bed.
It is every childhood dream to make homemade ice cream. Sadly, this never goes well. Put some milk in a bag, they said. Add some flavoring, ice, and salt, they said. Shake it up, they said. Well, they lied. It never gets smooth like it is meant to. Rather, it ices up improperly and disperses into flakes. One can also make homemade popsicles. According to Country Living, “Making popsicles in the summer is like baking cookies in the winter—something you have to do.” It is much simpler to make popsicles than it is to make ice cream. Simply take a juice, or even a soda, pour it into a popsicle mold, and leave it in the freezer for five hours. Once they are frozen all the way through, pop them out (hence the “pop” in the name) and enjoy.
With that being said, you should stay inside this summer and enjoy the A/C. Because who actually wants to go outside and live a life? Stay inside and you will not get sunburnt or mosquito-bitten.
