Students will investigate sculptural themes and demonstrate critical thinking towards aesthetic choices and gain a contemporary understanding of sculpture. This hands-on class will explore traditional materials with a variety of characteristics and properties. Safe building practices and tool use is introduced so students can advance their artistic skill set and understanding as young artists.

Students will further develop a unique artistic identity and increase confidence through creative expression. They will delve into more complex themes using focused research into historical and social context with projects that span the globe. There will be an increased variety of material experimentation encouraged while advanced building methods will be demonstrated as safe skill sets are emphasized.

Emphasis is placed on the history and cultural significance of the projects, as well as the end user as they execute functional projects from 2 dimensional plans to 3 dimensional forms. A wide range of materials will be used, mixed media is encouraged and personal style is explored.

Students will incorporate knowledge and skills gained in Beginning 3D Design. As new materials are introduced and technical skills are enhanced individual style will be enhanced as students are given more choice to achieve their artistic identity, share their narratives and express their vision. This course is intended for students who wish to develop a portfolio that illustrates decision making about how to use the elements and principles of art as they relate to the integration of depth, space, volume, and surface. Students’ portfolios will demonstrate mastery of 3D design through any three-dimensional approach, including, but not limited to: figurative or nonfigurative sculpture, architectural models, metal work, ceramics, installation, assemblage and 3-D fabric/fiber arts.

A course in the applied visual arts that focuses on the general principles and techniques for effectively communicating ideas and information and promoting products to business and consumer audiences. This course prepares individuals in any of the applied art media including drawing, painting, computer graphics, and others.

This course will introduce students to the exciting, high-tech world of graphic communications. Students will experience first-hand, activities such as computer layout and design, digital imaging, scanning, vinyl-cut graphics, offset printing, and screen printing. Students will generate their own projects, which include note pads, business cards, stickers, t-shirts, etc. Students will practice activities such as computer layout and design, digital imaging, scanning, vinyl-cut graphics, offset printing, and screen printing. This course is also recommended for students interested in careers in printing, publishing, and graphic design.

This course is designed to provide students with hands-on experiences relative to the printing industry. The skills of the printing industry will be built upon by giving real world experiences in the areas of digital file preparation, image capture, digital file output, press operations, binding and finishing, and measurement. Students learn job bidding and estimating and work on commercial quality jobs. This course is designed to transition students from school to work through portfolios and resume development, job applications.

This course builds upon the students’ knowledge and skills learned and practiced in Graphic Print Design 1 & 2. Students will create and produce digital print projects that communicate and promote graphic communication. They will develop knowledge and skills relative to the graphic design & printing industries. This course includes instruction and hands-on experiences in design and layout.

Students will explore aesthetic cultural trends of personal adornment throughout history. Basic construction of jewelry focuses on satisfaction of the end user and functional application of their work. Craftsmanship is honed during use of bead and pendant design and construction, wire design and simple casting techniques. Personal style and artistic processes will be uncovered as artistic confidence emerges with each project.
