ACT PREP (691451)
Length: Semester Available for: 10-12 grades
The purpose of ACT Prep is to increase student awareness of the importance and significance of preparation for improving their ACT college entrance exam score. Students will become more confident of their ability with various concepts and relationships of the four areas tested by the ACT (Mathematics; Science; English; and Reading). Students will learn how to think systematically and use the precise logic required for solving typical problems found on the ACT exam. Active involvement in and successful completion of the course should lead the student to greater confidence and higher scores on the ACT exam.
AP INDEPENDENT STUDY MATH/SCIENCE (579440)
Length: Year Available for: 10-12 grades
Prerequisite: be taking an AP Math or Science class
This course will provide each student with skills and strategies designed to facilitate academic success for the AP exam. and to strengthen individual weaknesses. The course uses the College, Career and Life Readiness standards of communication, work ethic & resilience, responsibility, respect and dependability.
AP INDEPENDENT STUDY- OTHER (691120)
Length: Year Available for: 9-12 grades
Prerequisite: be taking an AP class

LATINOS IN ACTION (691220)
Length: Year Available for: 9-12 grades
Prerequisite: Application only
Latinos in Action (LIA) students serve their community and celebrate Latino cultures. The course takes place during the school day, with some additional service requirements taking place after school. LIA students use their talents to serve others, improve the image of Latinos in the community, and prepare for college. Students travel to elementary schools and work with teachers to help younger children learn.
To enroll (and remain) in this course, students must:
Complete an application and receive a letter of acceptance
Maintain a 2.0 GPA all year and have no attendance problems
Commit to participate actively in LIA activities and service projects
Bilingualism is a benefit for students enrolled in this course, but it is not a requirement
PEOPLE OF THE PACIFIC (691230)

POP provides a safe place to develop a sense of belonging within your school. Obtain a deeper understanding about your identity as a Pacific Islander, culture, language, values and how to utilize them to contribute to school and community. To achieve this, we will set SMART goals individually and as a People of the Pacific together.
Engage in discussions, activities and service projects that will enhance knowledge and a healthy pride in yourself, school and community. Participate in counseling workshops that will provide step-by-step information and process towards High School graduation. Career and Mentorship opportunities will provide post-grad options, resume building and applications to prepare for the future.

This course empowers students with the knowledge and skills necessary for academic success and prepares them to graduate from high school ready for college, career, and life with confidence and competence. Students will learn how to navigate the high school system and how to monitor their progress toward graduation. Freshman Success will focus on life-skill development, academic planning, career exploration, and information on options, opportunities, and resources available to ensure high school and future success.

AVID
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.
It is a college and career readiness course for students in the academic middle (2.0-3.0 GPA) who have the desire to go to college and are willing to take rigorous classes. Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an academic elective course that prepares students for college readiness. AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. Each week students receive college preparatory curriculum provided by AVID Center, tutor-facilitated study groups, motivational activities and academic success skills. In AVID students participate in activities that incorporate strategies focused on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading to support their academic growth.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT 1 (572050)

English Language Development Level 1 is an intensive course of communicative and academic English instruction. This course develops oral, reading and writing communication skills for students at beginner English levels. This class focuses on English social and instructional language in academic settings, developing foundational literacy and conventions skills, interpreting and expressing information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success. Students may have varying levels of academic proficiency in their primary languages.
