EXPLORING COMPUTER SCIENCE (702421)

Length: Semester Available for: 9-12 grades      

This course is designed to introduce students to the breadth of the field of computer science through an exploration of engaging and accessible topics. The course focuses on the conceptual ideas of computing and helps students understand why certain tools or languages might be utilized to solve particular problems. The goal of Exploring Computer Science is to develop in students the computational thinking practices of algorithm development, problem solving, and programming within the context of problems that are relevant to the lives of today’s students. Students will also be introduced to topics such as artificial intelligence, web development, programming, and physical computing.

AP COMPUTER SCIENCE PRINCIPLES (702900)

Length: Year Available for: 9-12 grades      

This year-long course introduces students to the breadth of the field of computer science. In this course, students will learn to design and evaluate solutions and to apply computer science to solve problems through the development of algorithms and programs. They will incorporate abstraction into programs and use data to discover new knowledge. Students will also explain how computing innovations and computing systems, including the Internet, work, explore their potential impacts, and contribute to a computing culture that is collaborative and ethical. It is important to note that the AP Computer Science Principles course does not have a designated programming language. Teachers have the flexibility to choose a programming language(s) that is most appropriate for their students to use in the classroom.

BUSINESS OFFICE SPECIALIST (702001)  

Length: Semester Available for: grades      

This course applies advanced concepts and principles using word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and electronic presentation software (Microsoft Office). Students will integrate applications learned. This course prepares students to take Microsoft Office Specialist tests which are an industry standard that helps to validate computer skill proficiency. Also available for concurrent enrollment at some high schools.

BUSINESS OFFICE SPECIALISTS (710151) CE*

Length: Semester Available for: 9-12 grades

This course applies advanced concepts and principles using word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and electronic presentation software.  Students may have the opportunity to obtain a Microsoft Office Specialist industry certificate through Microsoft and Certiport per district discretion.  The MOS certification is recognized worldwide as the best method for employers to validate computer skill proficiency. 

DIGITAL BUSINESS APPLICATIONS (702021)

Length: Semester Available for: 9 - 12 grades

This Digital Business Applications course will provide students with their require Digital Literacy credit. This course is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and skills to be an asset to the collaborative, global, and innovative business world of today and tomorrow.  Concepts include the overall digital experience, digital communications, digital media and the exploration of career choices. This course also provides practical experience in professionalism using various forms of presentation skills, including speaking, podcasting, and digital portfolios.

WEB DEVELOPMENT I (702802

Length: Semester Available for: 9-12 grades      

This course will guide students in a project-based environment in the development of up-to-date concepts and skills that are used in the development of today’s websites. Students will learn the fundamentals of how the Internet works. They will learn and use the basic building blocks of the World Wide Web: HTML5 coding and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Students follow the steps to create a website by planning, designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining of the website projects. Students will learn and use different scripting technologies to create more dynamic and interactive websites. They will learn what it takes for a career in web development as they complete projects and create their own website(s). 

Note: Web Development 1 and Web Development 2 may be combined into a one-semester, two-period course offered at the GTI.
