Geography Projects – Economics

For this project you will choose a product that is of interest to you. The write-up you will complete treats the product as if it has not yet been released to the public. You are doing a proposal to your company to try to convince them to sell this product. The project is a two page assignment.

Page 1 - There are three paragraphs to complete.

• Paragraph 1 - This paragraph will be a description of you product. Say what it looks like. What it does. Does it come in different colours? If a food, different flavours? If a company is going to sell this, they want to know what they are trying to sell.

• Paragraph 2 - This paragraph explains why this product will be of benefit to the user, the company and society as a whole. Useful products are ones that sell very well. How is this product useful?

• Paragraph 3 - This paragraph explains how the product will be manufactured and distributed to the buyer. Start with the raw materials. Trace the steps need to move those raw materials through manufacturing. Then describe how the product will be sold to the public.

Each paragraph answers a different question:

Paragraph 1 - What is this product?

• This paragraph will be a description of you product. Say what it looks like. What it does. Does it come in different colours? If a food, different flavours? If a company is going to sell this, they want to know what they are trying to sell.

Paragraph 2 - Why will people want to buy this product?

• This paragraph explains why this product will be of benefit to the user (Why did the individual buy it?), the company (Why did the company decide to make it?) and society (Could this product go viral? Rubik's cubes, fidget spinners, iPhones, etc.). Useful products are ones that sell very well. How is this product useful?

Paragraph 3 - How is this product made, transported to stores and sold?

• This paragraph explains how the product will be manufactured and distributed to the buyer. Start with the raw materials. Trace the steps need to move those raw materials through manufacturing. Then describe how the product will be sold to the public. Remember that not all products are sold in stores.

Page 2 - Manufacturing Flow Chart

• This page is a flow diagram matching the description from paragraph 3 of the first page. You may use downloaded pictures, or do your own drawings for this diagram.

• As well, Paragraph 3 from page 1 may be written on this diagram, rather than on page 1 if you wish, but there still has to be both a diagram and the written description included in the project.

Submitting your assignment:

• 1) You can do a visual display if you would like. In that case take photos of your display and submit those. otherwise,

• 2) Do your work in Google Docs and submit it online.
