Students listened to How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World and discussed how the setting changed throughout the story. Each student selected one setting from the story and wrote the setting on a card. Students then drew the ingredient that was collected at that setting. Their responses were displayed together to show the different settings and events from the story.
This artifact is important to my development as a teacher because it shows how I can use an engaging activity to help students demonstrate their understanding of a story. Seeing the different student responses helped me recognize the importance of giving students multiple ways to show what they understand. This experience also helped me understand how student work can provide evidence of learning and guide my future instruction.
