Students generated ideas for the Physical Education Treatment Agreement. Proposals were discussed and recorded.
Dice Breakers creates inclusive opportunities for individuals to connect and build relationships.
Through a combination of play and exercise, students find commonalities that foster a connected classroom community.
This 3rd grade student struggled at the beginning of the year because P.E. was difficult with his ankle foot orthoses he was required to wear. I partnered with him and his parents, and together we developed a plan to motivate and inspire desired behaviors using a variety of incentives. The investment in this student produced drastic change in attitude, participation, and performance.
I have had the privilege of mentoring this amazing 3rd grade student. I strive to meet with him weekly, give him notes of encouragement, and often surprise him with unexpected gifts. Just before spring break, we enjoyed an ice cream social and played board games together.
The "Golden Shoe Trophy" is a positive reinforcer that I use to recognize exceptional students. One of the best things about this reward is that when individuals take the trophy home, it serves as a communication tool for families. It provides an opportunity for students to share their successes and for parents to praise their children. Positive reinforcement develops a child's self-esteem, makes them feel loved, and develops character.
I am intentional about designing activities to enhance social relations and promote collaboration in the P.E. setting. "Castle Relay" is one example of a Team Building Challenge the students were given.
Back and Forth Relay fostered social relations, communication, and teamwork. I posted this clip on Twitter and it has blown up! Currently, it has over 21,000 views.
