Visuals are all around us!
Common visuals supports may include Classroom and Individual Schedules, First-Then, Choice Boards, Regulation Visuals, and Visual Lanyards.
Social Stories are frequently used to teach social skills
Social Scripts teach common routines such as dressing/undressing, washing hands, and bathroom procedure.
Augmentative and alternative communication visuals and devices help students express thoughts, needs, wants, and ideas
Boardmaker Program:
LSTs should be competent in using the Boardmaker program to create visual supports.
Every school should have access to the disc or an online license for Boardmaker
Note - you will likely require access to a color printer when creating visual supports
Learning Support Teachers are expected to make visual supports for their classroom and help support and build capacity for classroom teachers. Autism specialist teachers and behavior support teachers are available to support learning support teachers as they build capacity within their programs
*If you are not familiar with this program or need an update, simply ask your ASD or BS teachers to get training.
