Capable, Confident, and Curious: Nova Scotia Early Learning Curriculum Framework, 2018 page 3
The early learning curriculum framework, which is implemented in all regulated child care centres and Pre-primary programs is based on the following:
Children are recognized as constructors of knowledge.
Educators are researchers and collaborators.
Children’s lives are shaped by their families, communities, language and culture.
Early learning environments are inclusive and reflect, and respond to, children’s interests, ideas, and curiosities.
Play is integral to well-being and learning.
Learning is holistic.
What is early learning through play?
Play is very important for children. It is how they experience their world and bring meaning to it. Play engages young children and promotes learning in all areas of children’s development:
• Physical Health and Well-Being
• Social Competence
• Emotional Maturity
• Language and Cognitive Development
• Communication Skills and General Knowledge
