Dear Global Jaya Families,
As the final school day ends and we wave goodbye to another wonderful school year, our campus is filled with beautiful energy. There are proud smiles and a collective sigh of relief as our students look forward to a well-deserved break.
Our children have worked so hard this year, growing not just academically, but socially and emotionally. Now, the holidays are finally here!
When the school routine fades, it is natural for families to wonder how to balance the long weeks ahead. While it is tempting to fill every day with grand plans and busy travel schedules, the most memorable and beneficial holidays are often built on simple moments of presence, laughter, and connection.
Here are three gentle, practical invitations to help your family enjoy a truly restful and connected holiday together.
When we think of family bonding, we often picture big trips or elaborate outings. However, the true foundation of strong relationships actually lies in much smaller moments, brief, shared pockets of warmth, laughter, and mutual attention.
These "micro-connections" do more than make us feel good in the moment; they build our children’s emotional security and strengthen family bonds.
How to bring this home: You don’t need an entire day of uninterrupted play to make a difference. Some of the best family moments happen in just 10 minutes:
The "Ten-Minute Giggle": Start the day with a silly joke, a quick riddle, or a warm cuddle in bed before everyone gets up.
Kitchen Sidekicks: Invite your child to wash vegetables, stir the cake batter, or set the table. These quiet, side-by-side moments are often when children feel most comfortable sharing their deepest thoughts.
A Shared Laugh: Take a moment to watch a funny animal video together and laugh—genuine, shared laughter is one of the quickest ways to bond.
In our busy days, children's schedules are often packed to the minute. While structured holiday activities are wonderful, there is immense value in simply allowing children to experience "slow time."
Having "nothing to do" is actually a vital spark for independent, creative thinking. When children are allowed to experience a bit of boredom, they are encouraged to look inward, using their own resourcefulness to invent games, build fortresses out of cardboard boxes, and explore their own curiosity.
How to bring this home: Resist the urge to instantly cure your child's boredom with a screen or a planned activity.
Create a "Boredom Jar" together before the holiday starts. Fill it with small paper slips containing open-ended prompts (e.g., "Build a fort under the dining table," "Draw a map of our garden," or "Write a letter to a grandparent").
If they say "I’m bored," gently point them to the jar, but give them the space to figure out the play themselves. You will be amazed at the wonderful, imaginative worlds they create!
One of the most powerful and beautiful ways to connect with your child is through storytelling. Children who grow up hearing and knowing their family's stories tend to have higher self-esteem, stronger family bonds, and a greater sense of confidence.
Hearing about where they come from, how their parents grew up, and how their family overcame challenges gives children a stable, comforting sense of identity.
How to bring this home: Use the relaxed holiday evenings to share your family tales:
"When I Was Your Age..." Share stories of your own childhood adventures, your favorite holiday traditions, or even a funny mistake you made when you were in Primary school. Children love realizing that their parents were once young and silly, too!
The Photo Album Journey: Dust off old photo albums or scroll through old digital photos together. Tell them the stories behind the pictures, what they did on their first birthday, or the day they brought home a beloved pet.
"Do You Know?" Conversations: Create a casual game around family history, asking questions like, "Do you know how Grandma and Grandpa met?" or "Do you know why we celebrate holidays the way we do?"
The school year is a wonderful journey of learning, but the holidays belong to the heart. This break, we invite you to put aside the checklists, let the days unfold a little more slowly, and simply enjoy the beautiful gift of being together.
Thank you, GJS families, for your incredible trust, support, and warmth throughout this school year. I wish you all a holiday season overflowing with peace, laughter, and deep connection. We cannot wait to see our students return next term, their hearts full of happy holiday memories.
With warmest holiday wishes,
Back to Primary School
