Secondary Library
In celebration of National Book Day, the Bahasa Indonesia Department and the Library organized a series of activities that promoted literacy, creativity, and a love of reading throughout the school community.
A highlight of the celebration was an inspiring Book Talk (Gelar Wicara) and a creative writing session with Indonesian author and sociologist Okky Madasari for Year 8 and Year 11 students. Known for her award-winning novels and thought-provoking social commentary, Okky Madasari is one of Indonesia’s most prominent contemporary writers. Her works often explore themes of humanity, freedom, social justice, and resilience, encouraging readers to think critically about the world around them. She is also the recipient of the prestigious Khatulistiwa Literary Award for her novel Maryam.
The sessions were designed to suit the learning experiences of each year level. Year 11 students participated in a discussion of Entrok, exploring the novel's themes and the social issues it reflects. Meanwhile, Year 8 students participated in a creative writing workshop, where they learned to develop ideas, build narratives, and express their thoughts through writing. Through engaging discussions and writing workshop activities, Year 8 students were encouraged to reflect on their own perspectives and develop their voices as readers and writers.
As part of the National Book Day celebration, the Library also organized a House Competition Book Donation Drive. Students enthusiastically contributed books to support literacy initiatives and enrich the school's reading collection. The activity demonstrated our students' generosity and commitment to building a stronger reading culture within the school community.
The final results of the House Competition were:
Garuda - 540 points
Elang - 120 points
Rajawali - 100 points
Congratulations to Garuda House for their outstanding contribution and for securing first place in the competition. We also extend our appreciation to Elang and Rajawali Houses for their participation and support.
The success of these activities reflects our school's commitment to fostering literacy, creativity, and lifelong learning. Through meaningful conversations, creative expression, and community participation, National Book Day served as a reminder that books are not only sources of knowledge but also gateways to imagination, empathy, and positive change. See you at the next National Book Day Celebration!
