As part of the Year 3 learning program, students recently had the privilege of welcoming several parents as guest speakers who shared their inspiring experiences of living and migrating across different places around the world. The session featured Ibu Endah (Snow’s mother), Ibu Anggie (Dharma’s mother), Pak Akhmad, Ibu Muthia, and Fayza from Fakhira’s family. Each speaker brought unique stories that highlighted the challenges, lessons, and valuable skills gained through their global journeys.
The guest speakers shared how migrating from one place to another required great courage and adaptability. Some spoke about moving to different cities or countries due to work, family, or educational opportunities. These transitions often meant adjusting to new cultures, climates, languages, and ways of life. While the process was not always easy, the speakers emphasized that every move helped shape who they are today.
The speakers also highlighted valuable life skills they gained through migration. These included problem-solving, resilience, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with people from different cultures. Learning new languages or adapting to different accents improved their listening and speaking abilities, while navigating unfamiliar systems strengthened their critical thinking and flexibility.
As global citizens, the speakers explained that living in different places helped them develop empathy and a broader worldview. They learned to appreciate diversity, respect different perspectives, and understand that although people may come from different backgrounds, they share many common values. This mindset helped them build meaningful connections wherever they went.
For the Year 3 students, the session was both educational and inspiring. Hearing real-life stories made the concept of being a global citizen more relatable and meaningful. The students learned that being a global citizen means being open to learning, showing kindness, respecting others, and being willing to grow through new experiences.
This guest speakers session was a memorable experience that enriched the Year 3 learning journey and reminded everyone that every journey no matter how challenging can lead to growth, understanding, and meaningful skills for the future.
