‘Hawk of the Month’ is a new initiative launched by the Global Jaya house captains. We have so many incredible students who are achieving amazings things. We wanted to find a way to publicly highlight and celebrate these students with our school community.
Any student can nominate either themselves or their peers. Teachers can also nominate students if they are aware of a particular achievement.
We are specifically looking for students who have been involved in an activity or a competition - where their success fulfils some or all of these criteria:
1. Role model: someone others look up to as a good example
2. Resilience: shows how much you want something and how much you are willing, and able, to overcome obstacles to achieve the goal
3. Perseverance: despite difficulties, you still give continued effort
4. Determination: your achievement reflects that you are focused to achieve your goal
5. Courage: you are able to manage and overcome your fears to achieve your purpose
6. Dedication: your achievement illustrates your commitment to achieving your goal
7. Focus: you have clear goals and objectives and your work is dedicated to achieving those goals and objectives
If you believe that your child has achieved something that fits these criteria, feel free to contact the Dean of Students on vicki@globaljaya.com with a nomination.
Peer on Peer Abuse Parent Workshop
A usual part of growing up is learning how to be around others in a safe and respectful way. All of us, at some point, have made mistakes with regards to how we interact with others. It is reasonable to expect the same from our children.
Global Jaya is committed to creating and sustaining a safe and supportive school environment for all of our students. When students make mistakes in their interactions with others we need a framework that guides us in our responses to these mistakes.
The Child Protection team have been working on a Peer on Peer Abuse policy that outlines; a spectrum of behaviour that encompassses normal through to abusive behaviour; possible examples of behaviours in each category in the spectrum and types of school responses at each point in the behaviour spectrum.
Before finalising the Peer on Peer Abuse policy, we would love to ask for parent feedback on our ideas and processes. The Child Protection team would like to invite all parents from across the whole school to join a parent workshop on Wed 7th April at 3pm. We plan to deliver a brief overview before asking parents to interact with the policy in small groups. The feedback and questions generated in this group work will help us to consider parental perspectives on the way in which we deal with student interactions at Global Jaya School.
