In our first activity, we were lucky enough to have some guest speakers.
Last December, we learnt about How We Organize Ourselves with the central idea: Economic systems organise production, exchange and consumption of goods and services. We had two guest speakers who were both parents (Ibu Anne Danianto and Ibu Rahmi Laksmiati). They explained the connection between producers and consumers. They also shared their experiences as producers. As a fashion designer, Ibu Anne Danianto shared her process of creating and selling her fashion designs. Ibu Rahmi Laksmiati shared her knowledge of owning and managing her own restaurant. We received so much information from their explanations. Thank you so much, Ibu Anne and Ibu Amy!
Our second activity was also in December 2020. Year 3 completed a Culmination Activity on How We Organize Ourselves unit. Before the culmination activity, students used the design cycle to create an original product or service. Students created a prototype/ picture of their product/ service, and they also created an advertisement to promote their product or service. Students presented their culmination activity virtually to their classmates. Students received positive feedback from their peers.
The third activity was about Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Twice a week, we completed Social-Emotional Learning activities. These activities aimed to help maintain our well being. Teachers set up off-screen activities during asynchronous sessions. In the first week of Term 3, our SEL activity included drawing or painting about our favourite holiday. Here are some examples of our drawings or paintings. Students also explained why they chose their drawing or painting. This activity was enjoyable for all.

Virtual Field Trip to Museum Litrik dan Energi Baru (Taman Mini Indonesia Indah)
For the first time during our Home Based Learning, Year 3 students successfully attended a virtual field trip to the Electrical and Renewable Energy Museum at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah. Creativity was used in the special online arrangement, which made the trip smooth and meaningful.
Do you know why this event was so special? This event was special because it was the first time we used Zoom as the platform for this event. During our virtual tour, we had several presenters from the museum demonstrate energy experiments and presented the process of how electricity travels to our home.
Moreover, students also learned about the history of electricity companies in Indonesia. Students learned about hydroelectric power plants, wind power plants, solar power plants, and much more. They taught us how to harness energy for our daily life, prevent electrical hazards as well as saving energy at home. Students also had an opportunity to participate in a quiz. Additionally, all students and teachers received an e-certificate. All students enjoyed and actively participated throughout the sessions.
Year 3 was able to collaborate with parents, so we learned from experts about energy. We were fortunate enough to have two fabulous dads share their knowledge and experience with our classes.
On Wednesday, February 3rd, Bapak Rocky N. Pasaribu (Philomena’s dad from Year 3B) dedicated his time to share information and knowledge about energy. He encouraged us to be Energy Superheroes. He specifically shared some handy strategies to conserve energy in our daily lives.
Here are some important reasons to save energy:
Reduces living expenses
Benefits the environment and protects wildlife
Enhances quality of life
Promotes health
Ensures affordable energy is available for future generations
Makes a positive impact
Furthermore, Pak Rocky also informed us of several simple ways to save energy:
Read more books rather than do online activities.
Avoid browsing the fridge a thousand times a day.
Turn off the power whenever not being used.
Shower with timer
Utilise natural light
Keep the doors and windows opened (daylight) and closed (night)
Then, on Friday, February 5th, we also had Bapak Piko Satria Danda (Keenan’s dad from Year 3A) as our next guest speaker. He has experience working at a famous oil and gas company, Bapak Piko provided information about natural resources and energy resources. He explained the formation of non-renewable energy in a simple and meaningful way for students. Moreover, he also shared information on the sources of renewable energy. Students were so fortunate to see a clear energy visual presentation from an expert. Year 3 students demonstrated a better understanding of renewable and non-renewable energy sources.
