Bingo! Welcome to Term 3!
Kindergarten students were all present and actively engaged in their classes after the long holiday. Connection Bingo continued the first week back in Kindy! The children were encouraged to make Bingo as many times as possible by completing the SEL tasks in a grid. Students could call a loved one, enjoy a quiet moment, draw what they would do with their friends when they see them next, share a meal, or play a family game. Students also shared photos and videos of them assisting with chores around the house, expressed gratitude, sang karaoke, and created puzzles and stories. The Bingo grid allowed the children to practice self-regulation, social skills, and responsibility. It also gave the children the choice and voice they need and crave to take real ownership of their learning and roles within their classroom and family.
100th Day of School
Another fun day of activities was during Week 3 when we celebrated 100 days in school! Students and teachers celebrated together in several ways. In Kindergarten A, students had breakfast while enjoying a movie, while the Kindergarten B students dressed up in clothes and accessories that they thought would be a trend 100 years from now. Besides having their special celebration, students in both classes also created a simple collage on the number 100. We were all so proud that we have had time together, albeit virtually, for this long.
Diorama Project
As part of exploring the natural environment under the transdisciplinary theme Sharing The Planet, Kindergarten students are currently engaging in a month-long project to create a diorama from a shoebox. Every Tuesday morning, all students from both classes meet to work synchronously on their diorama. The students have the opportunity to choose one kind of natural environment, such as a river, forest, arctic, etc., as the focus for their habitat display. Every week, teachers prepare detailed instructions on the screen to give step by step guidance on how to complete the diorama. We started by making the background, then added elements to show the natural environments’ characteristics. Kindergarten students will add the plants and animals that match their chosen natural environment in the coming weeks.
This term, teachers also sent home arts and craft materials for students to use. Students are encouraged to use the materials for the diorama making, but they also have the opportunity to use any resources they have at home. The diorama project supports students’ development in art, motoric and social-emotional skills, supporting the discussions during synchronous class time for their cognitive development. It has been a wonderful time for both teachers and students. It is great to see them express their enthusiasm and excitement to work on different parts of their diorama.
Thank you to our lovely parents, who take charge of preparing a wonderful, ample learning space at home. Students’ enthusiasm and active engagement in the learning are evidence of the hard work put in at home. We are thankful for your ongoing cooperation.
