TEACHER SAFARI

As an introduction to our 4th Unit of Inquiry 'Sharing the Planet' where the students investigate how animals are dependant on the environment for survival; the parents and students of Year 1 were invited to visit the Teacher Safari (a play on Taman Safari). The Year 1 teachers dressed up as animals from 5 different habitats: snow; forest; desert; grassland and ocean. From the safety of their cars, the students were able to see the teachers in their natural habitats and at the same time collect the unit resource folder for UOI 4. It was also an opportunity for them to meet their teachers for the first time this year.

VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP - JAKARTA AQUARIUM

On Tuesday 19th January, the Year 1 students excitedly gathered to go on a field trip with a difference - a virtual field trip. We were given a personal tour of Jakarta Aquarium by Pak Pondra and Ibu Inggrit. The students acquired new knowledge about the needs of not only fish but also the mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds they have there. They also learnt how our (human) actions can have a negative impact on those animals and what we can do (our responsibility) to help them. During this amazing experience, the Year 1 students demonstrated their inquiring nature by asking lots of questions and sharing their knowledge and experiences.
