In this current unit we learned about a country’s domestic and international interests, international organizations and global issues. During our unit we learned different cooperation like multilateral and bilateral. Bilateral cooperation is a cooperation or relationship between 2 states or countries, and multilateral is the cooperation/relationship between 2 or more states or countries. For example (for bilateral) Cambodia and Indonesia have partnered together during the pandemic and for multilateral ASEAN is a good example.
For the summative assessment in English we had to write persuasive writing based on a global issue. In the persuasive writing we had to persuade people to fix a global issue that the whole world is dealing with. For example, persuading people to stop pollution. We are also involved in making the rubric so we as a class will know what we will be assessed on, and also we decide how we will be assessed.
In the first week of our unit under How We Organize Ourselves, we did rotational activities with the teachers to see different issues that are happening. Most of the issues we discussed happened in different countries. For example, poverty could happen in the US, low water supply could happen in poor countries that don't have stable water supplies, and worldwide hunger. We also had to read an article about an issue that we chose, and answer questions about it. When we learned about the global issue of refugees, we found out about an international organization that helps refugees. A refugee is a person who had to flee their country because of war, conflict or some other reasons. The learner profile that I personally thought I gained was the learner profile, Communicator. Since I was more interested in the subject I communicated a lot more during lessons. I also represented the learner profile, Inquirer. I asked a lot of questions to fully understand the topic, and I investigated a lot about the subject.
In the span of a few weeks we learned about international organizations like the UNHCR, WHO, UNESCO, and others. We also learned about the organization's goals, people they are trying to help, etc. UNHCR’s primary purpose is to protect rights and wellbeing of refugees. WHO’s primary purpose is to let everyone have the rights to get proper healthcare and be able to have access to it.
You now may ask, “What did I learn from this?” Well I learned that without these organizations in place, things may have gone very badly. Because of organizations, big world wide issues can be solved more easily, and somewhat faster. Issues like plastic in the ocean can also be solved by organizations, they just need time and technology.
