Under the transdisciplinary theme, How We Organize Ourselves, Reception students are inquiring into the concept that people organize themselves in social, systematic, and purposeful ways. These beginning weeks of our unit have been exciting!
Line of Inquiry 1: How essential agreements contribute to shared well-being.
Week 1, our children explored why there are rules while playing and learning by discussing essential agreements on Google Meet. They got to know their classmates by communicating through drawing and practicing social skills by sharing during synchronous meet sessions.
Week 2, students listened to a Read Aloud of David Goes to School and made personal and real-world connections regarding appropriate and inappropriate attitudes. Students reflected on what rules they learned at home or at school. Students interviewed their parents about the rules they have at home and engaged in a number of Science, Math, and Language learning activities.
Line of Inquiry 3: Organization of time.
Week 3 and 4, we began exploring how being organized can positively affect our overall well-being. We are learning that we follow a sequence of events to stay organized. Students are sharing “A Day in the Life of a Child” to show their understanding of what a sequence of events is like for Home-Based Learning, all while practicing essential ICT skills and strategies using Google Slides and Seesaw!
In the coming weeks, students will explore Ikea virtually and reflect on our third line of inquiry, the organization of spaces and places!
Dirgahayu Republik Indonesia! Reception students and teachers enjoyed eating together during our lunch break in our Indonesian Online Restaurant on August 18th!! We shared various traditional dishes, while students inquired about what ingredients were in each. We watched a slideshow about conventional treats and watched student videos submitted through Seesaw. Students expressed themselves by sharing what they loved about Indonesia and practiced self-management skills while observing and waiting for their turn to comment. Students shared their love of the sunshine and warmth in Indonesia, building sandcastles, going to the beach, eating spicy food, sambal, and more! Students demonstrated reflective attributes while practicing their communication, social, and self-management skills!
