Topic: Reading at Home
Hello Parents,
We would like to start by thanking you for all your support as we end our fourth week of Home-Based Learning. It has been an adjustment for all. Additionally, we do appreciate your support with our beginning of the year diagnostic assessments, that have been successfully completed. This was our first year, conducting our diagnostics within a Home-Based learning environment. The teacher will be using these diagnostic tools to better support your child both with the synchronous and asynchronous lessons. The reading levels will directly support the GJ Reading Programme and help your child find the best reading books at their level.
How can you support your child when reading at home? We know everyone is very busy. Therefore, we would like to share some book conversations starters for you to use with your child.
Here are conversation starters you can ask your child during dinner or your after-dinner walk.
What did you notice the story that surprised you?
Does this book remind you of anything?
What have you been wondering as you read?
Does this book/story make you think of anything else you have read?
What is your favourite part?
Were there any parts that surprised you? Or the parts you liked the best?
What are you going to read next?
You only need to choose one or two of these conversations starters; it is a great way to connect with your child about what they are reading. And then, have them ask you about the book you are reading. What are you reading moms and dads? Remember, we are trying to model and develop the LOVE of reading!
Happy Reading!
Warm Regards,
Ibu Elena and Ibu Dewi
On July 31st 2020, Global Jaya School celebrated Idul Adha in a Mosque called Al Ghofur, which is located near the school. Every year, Global Jaya School donates a cow to be distributed to the surrounding and school community. We also had a parent who joined the celebration by donating 2 goats. We feel blessed because even during this challenging time, we still can share, contribute and give benefits to others who are in need. Below, you can view some photos of this wonderful event.
