Dear Wonderful Reception Parents and Students,
Welcome to Term 4! Although it is sad we are unable to go back to our typical school routine at this time, we are so happy to see everyone’s smiling face on Google Meet every day. Looking back into Term 3, we can’t help but smile at these memories too! Reception had so many amazing guest speakers who came to our class! Each shared important information and led lots of interesting and engaging activities. The first presentation came from Ibu Tasya, Ibu Indah, Ibu Citra, Ibu Puty, Ibu Nanda, and Ibu Yessi who talked about how people use colors for different purposes.
Ibu Tasya and Ibu Indah had a very informative presentation about Colors in Fashion. Students matched outfits to the appropriate season and learned about how colors may affect our mood.
Ibu Citra and Ibu Puty had a lovely presentation about Colors in Makeup. Students were allowed to experiment with makeup on a doll and used crayons to create a makeup masterpiece on a picture.
Ibu Nanda and Ibu Yessi had a mouthwatering presentation about Colors in Food. Our students tasted the rainbow! They saw the original, natural product, the natural dye from the fruit or vegetable, and the finished dyed food product with all of the colorful nutrients.
As a continuation of the “Baking With Dad” storybook, our last guest speaker, Pak Rizky - with help from Ibu Helen and Ibu Yessi - taught the children how to make cheesy toast and fruit kebabs. What a delicious way to practice following a procedure and to have colorful food art!
It was a very busy and fun unit! We are looking forward to having more interesting and challenging experiments for our last unit, “How We Express Ourselves”. Reception wishes everyone a healthy, happy, and safe Term 4!
Expressing Ourselves During Online Learning
by Ibu Tessa
Reception students and teachers have been actively immersing themselves in our last Unit of Inquiry, “How We Express Ourselves”. Even though we can’t all physically be together, it doesn’t prevent us from expressing our great minds, ideas, and feelings. With stellar support and ongoing collaboration between parents and teachers, we managed to create integrated activities in line with the school curriculum that students can choose to do every single day from home. Students are practicing their self-management, thinking, communication, research, and social skills.
We had our first online assembly adapting the story of Sleeping Beauty to our lockdown situation. Students and teachers dressed up according to the story, and we took turns reading the story about a princess and a cruel Corona Fairy together on-screen while practicing our intonations and facial expressions. It was a positive, silly, and fun start!
Another highlight has been online birthday celebrations with one another! Virtual birthdays with classmates and teachers is a first for many of us. Our students and teachers have celebrated a number of our “Spring” students’ birthdays online and have sung Happy Birthday to boys and girls in front of their unique home birthday backdrops. We’ve been expressing ourselves by sending wishes and watching our friends blow out their 6th Birthday candles on screen! Same crowd, same noise, and same fun!!
We are all long-life learners and we will never stop adapting to learn more in any kind of situation. It is amazing how to see all of us putting our best selves forward in this new online learning! Thank you so much for staying together with us.
