As we begin Term 4 under unique circumstances, it is important to remember there are many things that we can do to support our children and their ability to continue the learning process. The list below will help you provide structure to your child’s day and assist their transition to an online platform.
- Establish a daily routine. Try to keep this as close as possible to your child’s usual school routine, including bedtimes, waking up time and morning and evening routines. Sleep impacts a child’s ability to learn, ensure your child is getting enough sleep for their age (3-6 year-olds: 10-12 hours, 7-12 year-olds: 10-11 hours).
- Use one specific location for your child to engage in their learning. This should be a quiet space away from the busy areas of your home.
- Check ManageBac and specific platforms being used by your child’s year level daily. This will allow you to identify daily tasks/schedules and receive any news and updates in a timely manner.
- Ensure your child is using their device responsibly. During this online learning stage, students should still be adhering to the school’s ICT Usage Policy. Please monitor your child’s interactions and review their written correspondence regularly.
- Remind your child to adhere to the school’s Academic Integrity Policy when completing tasks and assignments.
- Assist your child to keep track of due dates and daily commitments. Younger students will also need you to document and upload their work for them. If you have any problems with the process required for your child’s year level, please see the relevant class teacher or Pak Dan (dancarr@globaljaya.com) for assistance.
- Ensure your child takes regular breaks, it is important that children of all ages are able to engage in play, inside and outside each day.
- Set aside some time each evening to reflect on the day’s learning with your child. What do they think went well? What questions may they have about the learning or the following day’s schedule? How are they feeling about this new method of learning?
- Keep devices out of bedrooms overnight.
- Reach out to teachers and Principals if you have any questions or concerns.
We hope that these suggestions can assist you in the coming weeks. We also suggest you share practical tips and ideas that have worked for you and your child with the teachers and other parents in your child’s year level.
We look forward to seeing your child online!
Kind regards,
Sarah
