Emily Davies

A former GLLM Outdoor Student at Coleg Llandrillo, Emily is currently studying Outdoor Education in Liverpool John Moores. Emily is 4 times Welsh Champion and a member of the Wales & Great Britain Canoe Slalom team.

Emily was introduced to paddling through her father Jonathan, who is a Talent Pathways Officer in North Wales and won the 2017 Canoe Wales Coach of the Year.

After becoming a member of Bala Canoe Club, Emily went on to compete in her first competition at Mile End Mill in Llangollen and has never looked back since. She trains daily at various sites including the River Tryweryn in Bala, Llyn Padarn in Llanberis, River Teifi in Llandysul, Cardiff White Water Centre, Lee Valley and Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham.

When she’s not in her canoe, Emily enjoys open water swimming, climbing, running and mountaineering.

In the future, Emily would like to continue to have fun and enjoy paddling whilst aiming to become part of Team GB for the Olympics one day. Through her current degree, Emily is looking to gain experience and qualifications which will enable her to coach a variety of outdoor activities.

Emily was a Finalist in the Canoe Wales Awards 2020 and has been ranked in the top 5 as a Premier Paddler for the past 3 years.

Find out more on what approach Emily takes.

"In the past I've created excuses about being on my period and that's really frustrated me, because why do i have to create excuses for something that is so natural? It got to a point where I thought - I'm going to do something about this, and I'm going to talk openly about it and see what happens."
