Before you even start training, your first step is setting up your Singo account. This is the digital system you'll use when you host Boombox Bingo events.
If you've received the "Welcome to Boombox Bingo!" email and haven't received an invitation from updates@playsingo.com, first check your spam and promotions folders. If it's not there, please reach out to recruiting@geekswhodrink.com for assistance.
Check your spam, promotions, and trash for an email from updates@playsingo.com. The subject line should be "SINGO: Final Step!"
Click the "Activate Account" button in the email to set up your password on the online dashboard.
After activating your account, you'll receive 4 additional emails over the next 4 days. Please delete them. Their subject lines will be:
"SINGO: Welcome and First Steps"
"SINGO: Shows/Games/Rounds"
"SINGO: Making Playlists and Customizing Games"
"SINGO: Community Features and Singo Live"
The Singo app is designed for a variety of clients, many of whom use it in a different way than Geeks Who Drink (e.g. printing cards, etc). Our team wants GWD Bingo callers to use this Handbook and the training we provide instead of the emails that Singo sends automatically.
After setting up your password, you'll need to download the desktop app. This step is very important - you won't be able to run Boombox Bingo events from the online dashboard.
Please use a laptop or tablet for your Boombox Bingo events (not a phone like the Singo website says is recommended). Whether you decide to use a laptop or tablet, make sure you download the correct application for your device.
If you're on a laptop, the Singo app will default to being immovable and on top of all of your other windows. Have your email and password handy, and we'll fix these settings next.
The desktop Singo app also uses click-and-drag interaction, meaning it's a little bit easier if you have a mouse and not a trackpad.
PLEASE NOTE: Upon download, you will likely get a notification along the lines of "This app isn't safe". Please go ahead and download the app - again, you won't be able to run Boombox Bingo events from the online dashboard.
To configure your settings, select "Console" in the lower right-hand corner, then "Settings".
Make your settings are enabled/disabled in a way that matches the image to the left. We recommend playing the Suspense Music because it's a great way to fill time while people are making their way to your hosting platform, but it's really up to you. Play around with Singo and decide whether you want to use it or not before your first event, and what you'd like it to sound like. One thing to note is that it is way more overpowering on your device speakers than it will be through a venue's sound system.
It's also up to you which Winner and Loser Tones you'd like to use, so test them out and pick your favorite. Be sure your autoplay delay is set to 3 seconds (instead of the default 1 second).
Under "Experimental Settings", leave "Enable Full Track Mode" disabled.
And if you're on a laptop you'll want to disable "Always On Top" and enable "Native Window Frame" in order to make using the app a little easier.
Once you're done, click the back arrow in the top left corner and then click "Close" on the lower right-hand side to get back to the main app dashboard.
The Weekly playlists cost money every time we use them. They should only be used when you are running a live event at your venue. The Training playlists do not cost money, so you can use them as many times as you like. To practice a game, follow the steps in "Hosting a Boombox Bingo Event". Select the Training Lab as your venue and use the training playlists, and practice as much as you like!
