In this one semester course, students will learn foundational aspects of cybersecurity. Topics include cyber hygiene, the basics of cryptography, software security, networking fundamentals, and basic system administration all utilizing the CodeHS web-based platform.
This is not a coding intensive course, but students will learn basic SQL, and will utilize basic HTML and JavaScript within specific contexts and will be provided supports within those contexts.
Students will modify text-based programs in HTML, JavaScript and SQL (sand shell commands in the supplementary module), and participate in simulated cyber attacks on safe sites learning how to mitigate cyber attacks.
This course is highly visual, dynamic, and interactive.
Cyber attacks happen over 100,000 times a day world wide.
Under attack are industries like financial services, Insurance, telecom, manufacturing, and many other types of businesses. Some of these attacks are DDoS, while other may be an attempt to obtain Intellectual Property of other business in an effort to steal trade secrets.
Governments are also a target for cyber attacks, but governments also attack other governments, looking to breach operational information that could give the attacking government an advantage.
Individuals experience attacks too, via banking breaches, ransomware, and attempts to steal individual's money and private, proprietary information.
