Computer Science & Society

Today, we see that technology advances and computing are becoming more ubiquitous in our daily lives. We are training Artificial Intelligence (AI) every day and don’t even know it. We do most everything BY computer. And, the Internet-of-Things (IoT) is growing exponentially creating massive amounts of Big-Data that once analyzed could have a variety of effects on us as individuals and society.

This unique, co-taught, full-year course, includes both technology and social studies disciplines and covers the key topics of the effects of technology and computer science on society. We look at advancing technology and the many benefits it provides to society and the subsequent pros and cons. We will also cover the negative consequences of the digital divide, loss of net neutrality, and the ethical dilemmas and safety issues advancing technology creates for society and how to mitigate dangers and controversy.
