The Gainesville High School World Language Department is dedicated to the development and education of lifelong language learners. Students will experience an engaging and rigorous curriculum that stresses the importance of cross content connections, an intercultural world view, and cultural awareness and sensitivity.

All languages taught will align with the 2021 Virginia standards with an importance on culture, connections, comparisons, and community. These five components fall under the fundamental skill of communication, with a specific emphasis on literacy and interculturality. Our mission is to develop a love for other languages and cultures in our students and demonstrate the relevancy of learning another language in our interconnected global society.
