Transfer Course Credit and Major/Minor Substitutions

Public Health majors who wish to apply credit toward their degree requirements for courses from other accredited institutions, or for UCLA courses that are not automatically approved to satisfy their major requirements, can petition the FSPH Office of Undergraduate Student Services. Approval is contingent upon course transferrability. If the Registrar's Office determines that a course is not transferrable to UCLA, credit cannot apply toward any degree requirements.

University, School, and General Education (GE) Requirements

Purpose: To request credit for coursework taken at another accredited institution toward one of the following degree requirements:

NOTE: Students who have questions about the Entry Level Writing or Writing I requirements should consult with staff and faculty in Writing Programs.

Petition form: FSPH University, School, and General Education (GE) Requirements Petition

Eligibility: Students can submit petitions only for courses taken at institutions other than UCLA. Requests for UCLA courses to apply toward University, School, or GE Requirements that they are not approved to satisfy will be automatically denied.

Deadline: Students can submit advisory petitions before they enroll in the course, or after they complete the course but before credit posts to DARS. Approval is contingent upon the course's transferability to UCLA. If the Registrar's Office determines that the coursework is not transferrable to UCLA, credit cannot apply toward any degree requirements.

Students can also submit a petition once they have sent a final official transcript to UCLA Undergraduate Admission and credit posts to DARS.

Petition process: The FSPH University, School, and General Education (GE) Requirements Petition asks students to identify the course, term in which the course was/will be completed, and institution at which they have/will have completed this course. Students also must specify which requirement they are requesting to satisfy via transfer coursework. Descriptions of these requirements are linked on the petition form.

You will also need to upload a copy of the course syllabus. If you cannot access the syllabus from the term in which you completed (or will complete) the course, you may upload a copy of the syllabus from another term, or a course description, reading list, and learning objectives.
