FSPH Undergraduate Student Services has created four-year degree maps for the Public Health BA and Public Health BS majors that students can use for academic planning. Both degree maps are Excel files that students can customize in consultation with academic advisors.
Students can satisfy the Entry Level Writing requirement before entering UCLA by: scoring a 3, 4, or 5 on the Advanced Placement (AP) English Literature or English Composition exam; scoring a 5 or higher on the International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher Level English A: Literature exam or Langauge and Literature exam, or scoring a 6 or better on the IB Standard Level A: Literature exam or Language and Literature exam; transferring an appropriate English Composition course from an accredited institution with a letter grade of "C" or higher; or passing the statewide Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE).
Students can satisfy the Entry Level Writing requirement at UCLA by completing English Composition 1 and 2, or English Composition 1A, 1B, and 2i, with letter grades of "C" or higher in each course, based on placement via AWPE.
Students can satisfy the American History & Institutions requirement before entering UCLA by: earning a "B" average (+/- grades excluded) in one year of high school American history/civics/government/political science (in any combination); scoring a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP American History or Government & Politics in the United States exam; scoring a 5 or higher on the IB Higher Level History of the Americas exam; or transferring an appropriate course from an accredited institution with a grade of "C" or higher, or "Pass".
Students can satisfy the American History & Institutions requirement at UCLA by completing an approved American History & Institutions course with a letter grade of "C" or higher, or "Pass".
Students attending UCLA on an F-1 or J-1 visa may petition for exemption from this requirement by showing proof of temporary residence in the United States.
Students can satisfy the Writing I requirement before entering UCLA by: scoring a 4 or 5 on the AP English Literature or English Composition exam; scoring a 5, 6, or 7 on the IB Language A or A1 (Native Speakers) exam; transferring a course equivalent to UCLA's English Composition 3 with a letter grade of "C" or higher; or satisfying IGETC or UC Reciprocity.
Students can satisfy the Writing I requirement at UCLA by completing English Composition 3, 3D, 3DS, or 3SL with a letter grade of "C" or higher.
Students can satisfy the Writing II requirement before entering UCLA by: transferring a Writing II equivalent course with a letter grade of "C" or higher; or satisfying IGETC or UC Reciprocity.
Students can satisfy the Writing II requirement at UCLA by completing an approved Writing II course (identifiable by the "W" suffix at the end of the course number) with a letter grade of "C" or higher
Students can satisfy the Quantitative Reasoning requirement before entering UCLA by: scoring a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP Calculus, Computer Science (AB), or Statistics exam; scoring a 5, 6, or 7 on the IB exams in Computer Science or Mathematics; transferring an appropriate course from an accredited institution with a letter grade of "C" or higher; or satisfying IGETC or UC Reciprocity.
Students can satisfy the Quantitative Reasoning requirement at UCLA by completing an approved Quantitative Reasoning course with a letter grade of "C" or higher.
Students are encouraged to complete their Diversity requirement at UCLA by completing an approved Diversity course (limit list to Letters and Science, Education and Information Science, Music, Public Affairs, and Public Health) with a letter grade of "C" or higher.
Students must complete 10 GE courses in 3 foundational areas, as follows:
1 course in Literary & Cultural Analysis
1 course in Philosophical & Linguistic Analysis
1 course in Visual & Performance Arts Analysis
1 course in Historical Analysis
1 course in Social Analysis
1 course in either Historical or Social Analysis

Note that the Office of Student Services must manually apply elective courses to the major requirements in DARS each quarter. We usually process these updates after Week 4 of each academic year quarter (Fall, Winter, Spring). If you are unsure whether a course counts as one of the three Public Health electives, please review the School’s undergraduate course offerings and quarterly enrollment emails.

Public Health majors must earn at least a 2.0 grade-point average (GPA) in all UC coursework, and a 2.0 or higher GPA in their major.
Public Health majors must complete a minimum of 60 upper division units through coursework numbered 100-199 (including their major requirements).
Public Health majors must complete at least 180 units for the bachelor's degree. These units may include AP/IB/GCE units.
Public Health majors may complete a maximum of 216 units for the bachelor's degree. AP/IB/GCE units do not count toward the 216-unit maximum.
Public Health majors must earn 35 of their last 45 units for the bachelor's degree in residence in FSPH.
Students who enroll in the UC Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) must satisfy the residence requirement by earning 35 of their final 90 units in residence at UCLA.
