Time-to-degree for UCLA undergraduate students is defined as 4 years, or 12 consecutive academic quarters, for students admitted to UCLA as Freshmen, or 7 consecutive academic quarters for students admitted to UCLA as Transfers.
Public Health majors who need to extend their time to degree due to documented extenuating circumstances may petition the FSPH Office of Undergraduate Student Services to extend their degree expected term beyond Summer after their fourth year.
Purpose: To request enrollment beyond Spring/Summer of a student's fourth year (as a Freshman admit) or Fall of a student's third year (as a Transfer admit)
Petition form: FSPH Time to Degree Petition
Eligibility: We strongly recommend speaking with an academic advisor regarding your situation. Students should explain as fully as possible why they need to enroll in additional quarters. If extenuating circumstances affected your academic performance (i.e. doing well in classes, completing coursework), please include a chronology of events and provide supporting documentation whenever possible.
Petition process: The FSPH Time to Degree Petition requires students to explain why they need additional time to complete their degree requirements. This explanation should be specific and concise; the character limit is 2500 characters. Students should also indicate whether they withdrew (i.e. dropped all enrolled classes) from any academic year quarter (Fall, Winter, Spring), and explain their reasons for withdrawing. The petition form includes space for students to upload documentation that supports their explanation.
You must also upload a completed Degree Plan Contract. The Degree Plan Contract should outline all remaining degree requirements, including University/School/GE requirements, major and minor requirements, and unit requirements. If you intend to complete a minor, your minor department counselor must initial and sign your Degree Plan Contract.
