Public Health majors who wish to study abroad should begin planning one year in advance. Due to the cohort nature of the curriculum, the optimal times for Public Health majors to study abroad is Summer or Fall Quarter of their second year in the major.
We encourage you to first connect with advisors in the International Education Office, who can help you navigate the different types of programs that UC, UCLA, and other institutions and organizations offer and identify the most appropriate options based on your goals.
Once you have applied and been accepted to your program of choice, you can follow up with the Office of Undergraduate Student Services to determine how coursework could apply to your degree requirements. Students can submit advisory petitions before they enroll in courses or after they complete the course but before credit posts to DARS. Approval is contingent upon the course's transferability to UCLA. If Undergraduate Admission determines that the coursework is not transferrable to UCLA, credit cannot apply toward any degree requirements.
If you wish to apply coursework from abroad toward your University, School, or GE requirements, you can submit an FSPH University, School, and General Education (GE) Requirements Petition.
If you wish to apply coursework from abroad toward your major requirements, you can submit an FSPH Major/Minor Requirements Petition.
Public Health majors must complete PUB HLT 50A, 50B, BIOSTAT 120, COM HLT 120, ENV HLT 120, EPIDEM 120, HLT POL 120, and PUB HLT 185A and 185B at UCLA.
