Money Monday

Collect dimes, nickels and pennies in a jar or bowl

  • Take out a handful

  • Make a guess if you have more or less than a dollar

  • Sort your coins in groups of dimes, nickels and pennies

  • Count your money

Optional challenge- add quarters into the jar or bowl

Optional challenge- try to grab a handful that is more or less than the previous amount

Goal- telling time to the closest hour or half hour

Optional Warm- Up Activity

Counting Collections- Gather small loose items like beads, dry pasta, beans, Legos, cereal, etc. and place them in bags. Have your student count the items and record the total. Provide cups or bowls as tools for counts larger than 60 so your child can group items by tens and/or hundreds.

  • Be sure to count and record accurately

  • Make sure to include all items counted
